When Legal Protection Fails // AN ARMY OF WOMEN
After the screening of AN ARMY OF WOMEN on 01.09.24, Amnesty invites you to a discussion about the lack of legal protection for women and girls in the USA - and here at home in Norway.
The film follows the rape cases of Amy, Marina, and Hanna, which were dismissed by the police in Austin, Texas. The three women join forces with twelve others in a groundbreaking federal class-action lawsuit. Their argument is that sexual assaults are not prosecuted because they are a type of crime that primarily affects women. They are determined to hold the police and prosecutors accountable but continue to face opposition from the system they are trying to change. We will discuss the shortcomings in the criminal prosecution of rape and the lack of a consent law.
