The Girl with the Needle

A frightening fairytale based on true events, about Denmark's most notorious serial killers.

In Copenhagen after World War I, the young factory worker Karoline (Vic Carmen Sonne) faces problems when she loses her job, is abandoned, and becomes pregnant. In her desperate situation, she meets Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm), who runs an underground adoption agency. With no alternatives, Karoline takes a job as a wet nurse for Dagmar. The two women form a strong bond, but Karoline's world collapses when she discovers the shocking reality behind Dagmar's adoption agency.

The film had its world premiere in the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Swedish Magnus von Horn (b. 1983) studied directing at the film school in Łódz. He has won several awards for his student films, and his feature film debut, The Here After from 2015. His second film, Sweat, was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2020. The Girl with the Needle is his third feature film, which also premiered at Cannes.
